HAVE FAITH AS BIG AS A MUSTARD
"For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20)
Jesus says that faith as big as a mustard seed can move mountains. A mustard seed is only about one to two millimeter, yet it can grow into a bush 30 feet tall. Similarly our faith, even if small, can do incredible things.
Having faith is having complete trust. You have to trust with your entire being that God has your back and that he will help you and take care of you. Our God is faithful and he knows what is best for us. He has a wonderful plan for you and so you have to fully trust God.
In the Gospel of Matthew, we see a man who was in desperation because his son was suffering from epilepsy. The disciples had tried to heal the boy but failed to do so. A while earlier, Jesus had given them authority to cast demons in his name and to heal the sick. Despite giving them his power and authority, they were unable to set the boy free. Once Jesus stepped in, he quickly rebuked the demon and the boy was healed (Matthew 17:18). The disciples were embarrassed and so they met Jesus privately and asked him why they were not able to drive out the demon from the boy. It was to this question that Jesus responded them about having faith big as a mustard seed in Matthew 17:20.
The problem was that the disciples lacked faith in Jesus. They did not fully trust him. They had faith but it was not strong enough and so they failed to cast out the demon from the boy. Jesus gave the disciples the authority over demons and every kind of sickness and he expected them to draw on his authority but they attempted to use it on their own. The problem was their lack of faith and now Jesus gives them the solution, have faith.
It is important that you allow Jesus to take over the impossible situation that you cannot handle it yourself. The problem arises when you try to handle things in your own accord.
Hebrews 11:1- "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." From this particular passage we see that the central feature of faith is confidence/trust. In the Bible, the object of faith is God and his promises. A clear example of this is Abraham's encounter with God in Genesis 15. In response to God's promise of countless descendants, Abraham believed the Lord and because of this the Lord was pleased with him and accepted him.
Faith is essential in our lives as it provides meaning and direction to our lives by making us believe that we can do things with God's help even if it seems impossible. Without faith, we wouldn't even bother trying to hit our goals and achieve our visions. Faith brings chances that things will work out and it gets higher when coupled with actions. By having faith, we feel more encouraged to try new things, thus giving purpose to one's life. Even if there were stumbling blocks in life, we know we can overcome them and come out fine.
Stay Blessed.
